SOURCE OF POWER
A union is not a company selling you a service, and it is not an office that exists apart from its members. It is people joining together to protect their rights, work, income and future. Jobs, property and staff come later. The member comes first.

A Local is the members’ first decision-making body. It is not a branch office or the bottom rung of management. It is where people discuss their own conditions, make decisions and choose those they trust to represent them.

Oversight means an independent check on power. It is not the Provincial Executive supervising itself or management reviewing its own decisions.

The Constitution and procedures must explain power in language members use in daily life. Complexity is not proof of seriousness. It often hides who benefits, who pays and who decides.
BrieflyTHE MEMBERS’ PROPERTY
Dues, cash, real estate, shares, investments, interest and anything acquired from member contributions are shared member assets.
BrieflyRIGHTS THAT WORK
A right written in law or a collective agreement means little when a member cannot understand it, meet a deadline or obtain representation.
