MEMBER KNOWLEDGE
Know the system you own
A member should be able to understand how the union works, where to go with a problem, who can decide and what rights exist along the way.
OPEN →KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Members cannot meaningfully use rights they cannot understand. Knowledge of the , representation, bargaining and union procedures should be ordinary member knowledge — not something held by a small professional circle.

OPEN →STEWARD CAPACITY
Stewards and elected Local officers should not have to discover their responsibilities after a serious problem lands in front of them.
Practical training must be part of the structure, not an occasional extra.
OPEN →PLAIN LANGUAGE
Rules can be precise without being written to exclude ordinary readers.
Plain language reduces dependence on gatekeepers and lets more members question, participate and act.
OPEN →ACCESS
Rules, guides, decisions and educational materials should be searchable and available directly to members.
Knowledge should not depend on knowing whom to ask.
OPEN →MULTIPLY IT
Every member who understands the agreement becomes harder to mislead. Every trained steward becomes another point of strength. Every Local able to teach the next person becomes more resilient.
